After watching the video to the right, do you think that Peter's is being offensive? On one hand, Peters is making fun of a race of people, and one could think that the fact that he happens to be a member of that race is irrelevant. He is still being racist because he is stereotyping Indian people in a derogatory way.
However, on the other hand, you could say that Peters is making jokes at his own expense and thus is not being racist or offensive. I would be curious to know what your opinion is. Do you think Peters is being offensive?
I think that even though Peters is Indian, I think it's very possible that other Indians find these jokes offensive. However, I found myself having a hard time calling him a racist. He is promoting racist stereotypes, but they are not being motivated by hatred. I don't know the exact definition of racism, maybe it doesn't have to involve hatred at all. This would mean that Peters is in fact being racist, but people have become so comfortable with comedic racism, that they know longer categorize it as racism- something that is an uncomfortable subject.
